Golf clab: Sale of Boca Raton municipal golf course delayed until 2021
City council members unanimously approved the delay of homebuilder GL Homes’ purchase of a city-owned golf course in Boca Raton for another year.
The closing date is now scheduled for October 31, 2021, marking the 12th modification to the commission’s agreement wherein the inspection period was extended to February 28, 2021. The deferment was granted to allow GL Homes to reconcile an open lawsuit over a proposed communications tower on the site. However, as per a prior agreement, the delay will increase the purchase price by $250,000. The sale price for the municipal property will now total $65.75 million.
GL Homes received approval from Palm Beach County in 2018 to redevelop the 190-acre golf course on Glades Road, west of Florida’s Turnpike in Boca Raton, into a residential community of 550 homes. The sale, easements and specifications regarding the deal will still need voted approval, as per commission documents.
The lawsuit over the communications tower was filed by Glades Road Self Storage LLC against Palm Beach County Commission, Palm Beach County and GL Homes in August 2019. According to county court records, Glades Road Self Storage alleged the county approved the 400-foot tower despite GL Homes’ failure to properly meet the required criteria for waivers or consider the tower’s impact on neighboring properties and businesses.
Led by Misha Ezratti and based in Sunrise, Florida, GL Homes was the sole bidder for development rights along the Lake Worth Drainage District earlier this year, potentially adding 313 homes to its homebuilder portfolio in the Agricultural Reserve.
GL Homes in Boca Raton has been successfully selling bespoke communities such as The Bridges, Seven Bridges, and Lotus. All of their communities offer world class amenities for their residents such as a state-of-the-art fitness center including an indoor sports court, poolside seating with a full-service restaurant, spa, sauna, and massage rooms, along with large children play areas.
